Argentina Power Cords

There are actually two main power cord standards used in Argentina:

1. IRAM 2063:

  • This is the most common standard for two-prong, ungrounded plugs. It is typically used for appliances with lower power requirements like laptops, chargers, and printers.
  • The voltage rating is 220-250V AC, and the maximum current rating is 10A.
  • This plug has two round pins arranged diagonally.

2. IRAM 2073:

  • This standard applies to three-prong plugs with grounding. It’s used for appliances with higher power needs or for added safety measures, like refrigerators, TVs, and computers.
  • It also has a voltage rating of 220-250V AC, but a maximum current rating of 16A.
  • This plug has two round pins arranged diagonally and one flat grounding pin below them.

Important additional points:

  • The frequency of the electrical grid in Argentina is 50 Hz.
  • It’s crucial to use IRAM-certified cords to ensure safety and compatibility with the local outlets.
  • Using cords that don’t comply with Argentinean standards can be dangerous and damage your devices.

Certification

  • Look for cords certified by IRAM, the National Institute of Standardization and Certification. This guarantees compliance with Argentinian safety and performance standards.
